New York University (NYU) is a non-governmental research university  in New York City. The  main campus NYU is situated  at Greenwich Village in Lower Manhattan. New York University was Founded in the year 1831 and known as  one of the largest  non-government  institutions of American  for higher education.

Most of NYU's buildings are situated across a roughly 229-acre (930,000 m2) area surrounded by Houston Street , 14th Street , Broadway,  and Sixth Avenue . The core of NYU  is made up of buildings that border Washington Square Park.

NYU housing system has about  11,000 students living there being  graduate and undergraduate  in U.S. as of 2007, and being one of the largest amid  private schools.


 NYU buildings encircles Washington Square Park and plays a vital role in the University's campus  
  life.

In  the late 1970s, Washington Square campus  has been the middle part of NYU  in the heart of Greenwich Village. In the year 2008 , NYU's graduation  took place in Yankee Stadium instead of  Washington Square Park    because Washington Square park was  renovating .

In the year 1990, NYU built a second community  throughout Union Square and known  as "two square" university in the close  vicinity to Washington Square. NYU's Union Square community basically consists of Palladium Residence Hall, the priority residence halls of Carlyle Court,  Alumni Hall, Thirteenth Street Hall, Coral Tower, Third North Residence Hall,University Hall,  and Founders Hall.

NYU oganizes  performance  and theaters facilities that are mostly used by the Tisch School of the Arts and university's music conservatory  .  NYU's facilities is also used occasionally for External productions .
