Adult education

Adult are grown-up people.Adult education means educating those adults who are uneducated.

In some countries,adult education is needed because education is compulsory and everybody is educated.In some countries,there is need for adult education because the majority of people are uneducated.In Nepal,many people are uneducated because education is not compulsory in our country.

Country's development depends upon the number of skilled people present in that country. Only the skilled one can do some constructive work for the nation.If they lack skill then they cannot help in country's development. Instead of that they are mislead by some greedy people for their own benefit.

Nepal is a country of peasants.The prosperity of our country depends upon the prosperity of our peasants.The peasants of our country are illiterate and ignorant.They follow the traditional method of agriculture.They do not know the improved method of agriculture.The production of field is low.They do not use improved method of cultivation and new types of seeds and manure.They cannot markets their products at a good profit.They do not know the importance of co-operative societies and banks.They do not know the importance of sanitation and health.Their houses and compounds are dirty.We cannot expect to improve the condition of the peasants without educating them.

If the adults are educated,they will educate their children,and education will spread in the country.Nowadays,only a small number of the children go to schools.the majority of children stay at home and help their parents at work.Such children will grow up into ignorant and illiterate person like their parents.If the parents are educated,then only education will spread in our country,and we can have a program of compulsory education for all children.

To educate the adults,His Majesty's Government has started literacy classes and adult schools. Such school must be free.The adults should be given some facilities.They should get free supply of book and other materials.They should be given prizes and other facilities.Without such facilities, we cannot attract the adults to the schools.There should be short courses for the adults.They cannot be expected to devote a long period of time to education.There should be libraries and reading rooms for the adults when they finish the short courses.If the adults who are literate are left without reading facilities,they will soon forget what they have learned.

Every village council should have a program of adult education.Class organization,welfare societies,schools and campuses also should help in this matter.The ministry of education of His Majesty's Government has a Section of Adults Education to guide and help them.This section has been doing valuable work for the spread of adult education.
